A fresh complaint with a Chattogram court on charges of attempt to murder was filed on Sunday accusing 164 named including Chandan Kumar Dhar alias Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a top official of ISKCON, and 500 unnamed. The court instructed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station to investigate the case.
Businessman Enamul Haque, who was injured during the clash between ISKCON followers and police on November 26, filed the complaint with the 1st Metropolitan Magistrate’s court in Chattogram on Sunday, the plaintiff's lawyer Shamsul Alam told The Daily Messenger.
The Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique instructed the Kotwali Police Station's OC to investigate the case, the lawyer said.
The plaintiff Enamul Haque named 164 individuals including lawyers, journalists and clerks along with 400 to 500 unidentified persons in the complaint with the court.
Chandan Kumar Dhar alias Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari recently introduced as the spokesman of the Hindu community under the banner of “Sanatan Jagaran Mancha”.
According to the case statements, Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on November 25 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a sedition case filed at Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram. He was produced before the Chattogram court on November 26) where his bail petition was denied.
The incident took a dramatic turn when Chinmoy’s supporters blocked the prison van while he was being taken to jail from the court premises. A clash between Chinmoy’s followers and the police ensued, lasting nearly three hours.
During the confrontation, businessman Enamul Haque was allegedly attacked and beaten. The attackers, reportedly followers of Chinmoy, targeted Enamul, addressing him as “Molla” due to his beard and traditional attire. The assault left him with a broken right arm and a machete wound on his head, according to the complaint.
