International Anti-Corruption Day celebrated in Paikgacha

International Anti-Corruption Day 2024 was celebrated in Paikgacha, Khulna, with various programs, including flag hoisting, a human chain and a discussion session. On Monday morning, the event was inaugurated at the Upzila Parishad premises by Upzila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahera Nazneen, who hoisted the national flag and released pigeons as the chief guest.

Following the human chain on the main road in front of the Upzila Parishad, a discussion session titled "Youth Unity Against Corruption, Building a Pure Future" was held in the Upzila auditorium, jointly organized by the Upzila Administration and the Anti-Corruption Committee.

The session was presided over by GM M. Azaharul Islam, the president of the Upzila Anti-Corruption Committee. In her address as the chief guest, UNO Mahera Nazneen emphasized the importance of public awareness in combating corruption.

Special guests included Mihir Baran Mandal, Vice-Principal of Paikgacha College; Shahjahan Ali Sheikh, Secondary Education Officer; Tushar Kanti Das, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation); and Siddiqur Rahman Talukder, DGM of Rural Electrification Board.

The session was moderated by Anti-Corruption Committee members Jaminur Islam and Purna Chandra Mandal. Other speakers included Upzila Education Officer Bidyut Ranjan Saha, URP Instructor Md. Iman Uddin, Vice-President and Head Teacher Rahima Akhtar Shampa, Paikgacha Press Club Vice-President Abdul Aziz and Sottota Songho member Turani Akhtar Rasa.

The event was also attended by Freedom Fighter Abdul Mazed, Women’s Affairs Officer Reshma Akhtar, Social Welfare Officer Onath Kumar Biswas, Family Planning Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, Assistant Extension Officer Md. Shahjahan Ali, Ansar and VDP Trainer Md. Altaf Hossain, students from various schools, colleges, and madrasas, as well as other distinguished guests.

The program began with a recitation from the Quran by Hafez Rafiqul Islam and a Gita recitation by Prarthana Mondal. This day-long event played a significant role in raising public awareness against corruption.
