An upazila level Chhatra Dal leader was killed, and five others were injured during a clash between two factions of the Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal, the BNP's student front, on the premises of the Ghior Upazila Health Complex in Manikganj at 12pm on Monday.
The deceased was identified as former Ghior upazila general secretary of the organisation, Lavlu Mia (40).
Mehedi Hasan Sani, Joint General Secretary of Ghior Upazila Chhatra Dal, confirmed the incident.
Sani stated, "The clash erupted over establishing dominance in the Ghior bus stand area, where BNP activists were assaulted by miscreants. Former Chhatra Dal leader Lavlu Mia rescued the injured and took them to the health complex. However, the assailants attacked Lavlu with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot."
Rafiqul Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghior Police Station, said the incident appears to be rooted in a conflict over dominance.
"An investigation is underway, and legal actions are in process," he added.
