A Female Union Parishad (UP) member and her father were injured in an attack after being prevented from cutting straw from a paddy field in Paikgacha, khulna.

The incident occurred on December 8 at 7:30 AM in the Gajalia area on a piece of land belonging to Jahangir Master. A case regarding the incident was filed at the police station on Tuesday.

The acting chairman of Chandkhali Union Parishad, Abdullah Al-Mamun Sardar, along with other UP members, strongly condemned the attack on the female UP member and demanded strict action against the culprits from the authorities.

Esneara Begum, the reserved UP member for wards 7, 8, and 9 of Chandkhali Union, who is currently undergoing treatment at Paikgacha Hospital, reported that her father, Liakat Sardar went to cut straw on Jahangir Master's instructions.

However, Rafiqul Mistri’s wife Aklima and son Rubel were already cutting straw there. When Liakat Sardar tried to stop them, an argument broke out. At one point, Aklima and Rubel attacked Liakat Sardar, injuring his left hand with a sickle. Upon hearing the news, Esneara Begum rushed to the scene but was attacked by Aklima, who struck her on the forehead with a sharp sickle. Additionally, Esneara alleged that Rubel attempted to sexually harass her. Local residents later rescued the injured and admitted them to Paikgacha Hospital.

On Tuesday, Esneara’s husband, Abul Hossain Jamaddar, filed a case against Aklima and her son Rubel at Paikgacha Police Station. Regarding the incident, Paikgacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sobzel Hossain assured that necessary legal action would be taken.
