A human chain was formed in Paikgacha, Khulna, demanding fair compensation for climate damage. The event was held on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Paikgacha-Khulna road near the Upzila Parishad.
The program was organized by Helvetas Bangladesh Development Organization of the Rural Poor (DORP) in collaboration with Ma Sangsad, WASH Budget Monitoring Club, and the Youth Group.
Presided over by former Paikgacha Government College professor MMM Azaharul Islam, the event featured Advocate FM A Razzak, President of the Paikgacha Press Club, as the chief guest.
Other speakers included Pintu Chandra Das, Mita Rani Das, Mintu Adhikari, and Chameli Begum, among others. Speakers at the human chain urged for fair compensation for climate damage and called on the government to take effective measures, including ensuring safe water in Paikgacha, allocating sufficient funds to prevent river erosion, stopping saline water intrusion, dredging rivers, and protecting freshwater sources.
