The shipping adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain on Sunday warned to take strict action against corruption.

"Measures will be taken against corruption, even for accepting bribes as small as Tk 100," he said.

The adviser said this while addressing at the 47th annual general meeting of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, held at the Chattogram Boat Club in Patenga.

M Sakhawat Hussain, also the chairman of the board of directors of the BSC, said that highlighted BSC's financial achievements, noting that the organisation had repaid a government loan of nearly Tk 500 crore.

"The BSC is now operating profitably with five ships, despite losing one to damage in Ukraine. Plans are underway to purchase two more ships with their own funds, pending a visit to inspect ships in Japan," he said.

"As long as I am here, you can trust that there will be no theft or embezzlement like before. Over the last four months, no significant financial fraud has occurred. If anyone accepts bribes, strict action will be taken because a thief is a thief, and there will be no escape if caught."
