Nazma Akter, a 22-year-old housewife from Chandanaish, Chattogram, succumbed to her injuries after being burned in a fire allegedly started by her husband. She passed away early Saturday while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
However, Nazma’s husband, Abdul Jabbar (28), was arrested following the incident.
Police said that Nazma and Jabbar frequently argued over various issues. On Friday, an argument at Nazma’s father’s house escalated when Jabbar allegedly threw octane at her from outside. The flammable liquid caught fire from a nearby stove, causing severe burns to Nazma.
Nazma was initially taken to Dohazari Health Complex and later transferred to CMCH, where she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
Chandanaish Police Station officer-in-charge Emran Al Hossain told The Daily Messenger that the victim’s brother filed a case against Jabbar.
"Jabbar was arrested on Saturday morning and he confessed to his crime during primary interrogation," the OC said.
