To ensure transparency in the distribution of subsidized goods, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has launched a nationwide program to distribute Smart Family Cards. As part of this initiative, 1,641 smart cards were distributed to beneficiaries in Paikgacha Municipality, Khulna, on Tuesday, based on verification of their national identity cards (NID).
Municipal Executive Officer Lalu Sardar stated that the previous handwritten cards often led to irregularities, such as counterfeiting and multiple card usage. The smart card system is expected to resolve these issues.
Municipal Administrator and Upzila Executive Officer Mahera Nazneen hailed this initiative as a revolutionary step. She further mentioned that the smart card system would bring transparency and discipline to the distribution process. Additionally, monitoring mechanisms have been strengthened to prevent irregularities by dealers.
The card distribution event was attended by several officials, including Upzila Engineer Md. Shafin Shoaib, Municipal Engineer A.M. Noor Ahmed, Upzila Assistant Education Officer Debashish Das, Assistant Youth Development Officer G.M. Bablur Rahman, former Panel Mayor S.M. Imdadul Haque, former Councilors S.M. Taiyebur Rahman, Kabita Rani Das, Asma Ahmed, Rabi Shankar Mandal, Imran Sardar, Sub-Assistant Engineer Litu Sheikh, Chief Assistant Sheikh Ziaur Rahman, Tax Assessor G.M. Rafiqul Islam, Tax Collector Md. Saidur Rahman, Senior Assistant Uttam Kumar Ghosh, Hemendra Nath Gain, Licensing Inspector Mrinal Kanti Saha, and other staff members, including Vidyut Roy, Bikash Ghosh, Tanmoy Mandal, and Md. Imdadul Haque.
Overall, stakeholders expressed hope that this initiative would make the distribution of subsidized goods more effective and orderly.
