The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain wants to take the health service to the doorsteps of the citizens by reshaping the health department of Chattogram City Corporation.
The mayor inaugurated the free eye treatment, cataract surgery, medicine and spectacles distribution program at the initiative of Allama Abul Khair Foundation at Char Chaktai ground in ward no 19 on Tuesday.
Former general secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chattogram city Abul Hashem Bakkar was present as the keynote speaker with Muhammad Suhail Saleh in the chair.
Speaking as the chief guest, the mayor said, "I want to take the health service to the doorsteps of the citizens by reshaping the health department of Chattogram City Corporation. We are providing various vaccines free of cost from the city corporations. Besides, we are also making arrangements for dengue detection and treatment free of cost. I am hopeful that the Allama Abul Khair Foundation will implement these works more effectively together with us.
"I would like to request the Allama Abul Khair Foundation that if they provide some services in every ward of our city corporation, we will jointly manage these services," he added. If we work to protect the fundamental rights of the people, it will benefit everyone.
The mayor said there are many rich people in Chattogram, but they do not come forward much for the development of the common people. I call on the Foundation to participate with us in important initiatives like healthcare. We are making people aware of cleanliness and carrying out mosquito eradication activities.
As part of this program, more than 500 patients were given free eye check-up and more than 100 patients were selected for cataract surgery free of cost.
Former councillor Yasin Chowdhury Achu, Md. Faisal, Yakub Chowdhury Nazim, Yunus Chowdhury Hakim, Rezia Sultana Munni and local leaders were also present on the occasion.
