The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has announced to bring back the tradition of Chawkbazar kitchen market. As part of the program, the mayor visited the rehabilitation activities of 68 traders occupying the footpath around the market at 'Chawkbazar City Corporation kitchen market on Wednesday.
During the visit, the mayor said, "Chawkbazar is my own area. Childhood, adolescence and youth were spent here. The traditional kitchen market of this area is very old. Earlier, the road was small, but the traffic jam was not so much. However, despite the large number of roads, traffic congestion has increased due to illegal occupation of roads and footpaths, which is one of the reasons for public suffering.
Those who became commissioners or mayors ignoring the people's vote gave priority to terrorists and extortionists. As a result, the vendors of Chawkbazar kitchen market have been subjected to forced extortion and chaos has increased in the area. This chaos has affected the lives of students and common people in the area.
He also said, "We have removed 68 hawkers who are running business occupying roads and footpaths and given them the opportunity to do business in this market." After a long time, relief has returned to the area. Locals are now getting a chance to breathe a sigh of relief. Markets and roads have been cleaned and order has been restored in the area. This was made possible with the help of the people. We are committed to maintaining this environment.
About the cleanliness drive, the mayor said dustbins have been set up in the area and dirt is being cleaned every day. Measures have been taken to clean drains, protect manhole covers and stop dumping of plastic or polythene in drains before the monsoon. Two people have been assigned to monitor these activities. Our goal is to turn the area into a healthy, clean and green city.
