Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), said "The coming era will be dominated by AI-based advancements, and our youth must be equipped to navigate this world."

He made these remarks while addressing the "Activation Program on Digital Skill Training," held at the Multipurpose Auditorium of CUET's IT Business Incubator on Thursday.

The training was organized under the Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE) Project, a collaborative initiative by the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), the ICT Division, and CUET-IICT.

Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan said "Failure to do so will leave us behind. With a significant portion of our population being young, this is a tremendous advantage for Bangladesh. We must expose this demographic to technology, particularly AI, through education and proper training. We must enhance their analytical thinking, research capabilities, and problem-solving skills."

The CUET VC stressed the importance of adapting education to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He also advocated for moving beyond traditional textbook-focused curricula to adopt skills-based and outcome-oriented education.

“Instead of rote learning, students need to internalize knowledge, focus on practical applications, and innovate. Research at the university level must be aligned with government and industry priorities, supported by increased funding," he remarked.

The VC also highlighted the importance of developing a well-rounded human resource pool with expertise in STEM, arts, and humanities.

"Bangladesh needs a workforce capable of innovation, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving," he added.

Md. Shakhawat Hossain, Project Director (Joint Secretary) of BCC's EDGE Project, addressed as the guest of honor while Dr. Mohammed Nazim Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of East Delta University, participated as the program specialist. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Moshiul Haque, Director of CUET's IT Business Incubator and IICT, and hosted by ETE third-year students Mishu Mitra Jackie and Meherin Binte Alam.
