Sufi Drama ‘Pakhider Bidhansobha’ staged at Maizbhandar

A remarkable performance of the Sufi drama ‘Pakhider Bidhansobha’ was held at Maizbhandar Darbar Sharif in Fatikchhari in Chattogram on Tuesday. Darul Irfan Research Institute (DIRI), organized the drama show which was based on Sufi philosophy and spiritual teachings, offering a profound experience to the audience.

Students from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Dhaka performed drama and it was written by Dr. Shahman Moishan and directed by Dr. Md. Ahmedul Kabir. Lighting design was by Dhiman Chandra Barman, and the music was composed by Nabeed Rahman. The play presented a symbolic story, portraying humanity’s spiritual journey and moral growth.

The event was graced by notable personalities, including Syed Irfanul Hoque Maizbhandari, Nayeb Sajjadanashin of Gausia Ahmadia Manzil, Syed Erham Hossain and Professor Dr. Sheikh Sadi of the Department of Bangla, Chittagong University, Dr. Sheikh Mokbul Islam from India; Dr. Munmun Nesa Chowdhury of the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Chittagong University; and several academics from the music and accounting departments of Chittagong University including Nadira Islam, Mishkatul Momtaz, Koushik Ahmed, and Mohammad Muhiuddin, Syed Ayaz Mabud, District Cultural Officer of Chattogram Shilpakala Academy, and Assistant Professor Kazi Md. Saiful Asfia from Chittagong Independent University’s English department, were also present.

The drama drew inspiration from a Sufi allegory about a flock of birds embarking on a spiritual journey under the guidance of their leader, the Hoopoe. Symbolizing humanity’s quest for ultimate truth, the play resonated deeply with the audience, stirring emotions and provoking thought.

Syed Irfanul Hoque Maizbhandari remarked, “Sufi philosophy teaches moral excellence and spiritual peace. This drama inspires viewers to uphold human values and ethical principles.”

‘Pakhider Bidhansobha’ successfully delivered the core teachings of Sufi literature, leaving a lasting impression on the audience and furthering Maizbhandar Dargah Sharif’s mission to promote spiritual and cultural enrichment.
