119th annual Urs of Gausul Azam Maizbhandari concludes

The 119th annual Urs of Hazrat Gausul Azam Syed Ahmad Ullah Maizbhandari (R.A.), the founder of the Maizbhandari Sufi Order, concluded with the Akheri Munajat (final prayer) in the presence of thousands of devotees. The event held at the Gausia Ahmadia Manzil in Fatikchhari in Chattogram, came to an end on the night of Friday, January 24, with prayers led by Syed Emdadul Hoque Maizbhandari, Sajjada Nashin (spiritual custodian) of the Gausia Ahmadia Manzil.

During the Munajat, Syed Emdadul Hoque prayed for the welfare, peace, and prosperity of the nation and the Muslim Ummah worldwide. Devotees from across Bangladesh and abroad, including India, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, China, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, and Oman, attended the Urs with deep reverence.

In his address, Syed Emdadul Hoque emphasized the role of Sufi saints in spreading Islam across the Indian subcontinent. He said, “Sufi saints have always been the guardians of spirituality and Shariah. They not only propagated Islam but also upheld the moral and spiritual values of society.”

Referring to Hazrat Gausul Azam Syed Ahmad Ullah (R.A.), he remarked, “The Maizbhandari Sufi order is a unique blend of Islamic principles and regional cultural practices, fostering love and harmony.”

Syed Irfanul Hoque Maizbhandari, Naib Sajjada Nashin and chairman of the Maizbhandari Foundation, echoed these sentiments, stating, “The essence of Sufism lies in humanity, spiritual development, and social harmony. The teachings of Gausul Azam inspire us to work for the betterment of all humanity while maintaining our spiritual integrity.”

The Urs featured a 10-day program organized under the supervision of Syed Emdadul Hoque and managed by Syed Irfanul Hoque. Activities included free medical camps, blood donation drives, seminars on thalassemia awareness, ethics Olympiads, cultural performances, and Sufi discussions. Educational events, such as science festivals, Quran recitation competitions, and awards for meritorious students, were also held.

Security was tight, with additional police forces and plainclothes officers ensuring the safety of attendees. Surveillance was enhanced through CCTV monitoring. Facilities such as parking, clean drinking water, sanitation, and medical services were provided for the convenience of devotees.

The Urs concluded with gratitude extended by Syed Irfanul Hoque to the local administration, law enforcement agencies, and volunteers for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth execution of the event.

Dr. Sheikh Maqbul Islam from India, Alhaj Syedul Haque Khan, Managing Director of Khan Agro Group, Captain Syed Sohel Hasnat, Managing Director of Phoenix Shipping Limited, Zahirul Islam Chowdhury Alamgir, former Director of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammad Abu Taher, Deputy Managing Director of Meghna Group of Industries, and Syed Erham Hossain and Syed Manawar Hossain, among others, were present at the final prayers.
