The reason behind the murder of Arnab Kumar Sarkar, an MBA student at Khulna University (KU), remains uncertain nearly 24 hours after he was brutally gunned down in Khulna city. Police are investigating three possible motives, but the family of the 26-year-old has not expressed suspicion toward anyone. Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (South) Md Moniruzzaman said, "Operations began immediately after the incident. However, no case had been filed as of this noon 25 January.

"The family could file a case in the afternoon," he added.

Arnaba, a student at KU's Business Administration Department, was shot dead by unknown assailants around 9:30pm on Friday night (24 January) while drinking tea at a tea shop at Tetultala Mor in the city.

Following the incident, police detained three individuals for questioning last night. However, their names have not been disclosed as no concrete information has been obtained yet.

Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model police station, said, "Three bullets of a pistol and one shotgun shell were recovered from the scene."

Police are probing whether there were disputes related to the contracting business of Arnab's father or his personal life. They are also investigating whether a romantic entanglement might have been a factor.

According to witnesses, several motorbike-riding assailants approached Arnab while he was standing outside a tea stall and opened fire. One bullet hit Arnab in the head. Locals rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Arnab's body was handed over to his family this afternoon following an autopsy. His cremation was held at a local crematorium.
