All in society should come forward to keep students drug-free : DG Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman

There is one drug dealer in every thousand population in the country and drugs worth Tk 20 crore are being sold every day, which is equivalent to Tk 7,300 crore annually. Director General of the Department of Narcotics Control Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said this while addressing an anti-drug rally and reception of GPA-5 achievers in HSC examinations at Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Saturday.

He said that due to the conspiracy of neighboring countries, there is a terrible spread of drugs in Bangladesh. There are no drugs in our country. However, drugs are entering from neighboring countries through the border areas and sea routes. Law enforcement agencies, including BGB, are making all-out efforts to control narcotics.

Noting that 80 percent of the drug addicts are youths and students, the DG said the administration should bring drug dealers of all levels, big and small, under the law to protect the young generation from the clutches of drugs. Besides, guardians, teachers and people from all walks of life will have to take part in anti-drug activities unitedly.

AKM Golam Morshed Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (LA), Chattogram District, Runu Majumder, Principal, Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) School and College, Mohammad Mokammel Haque Khan, Chairman, Syeda Hosne Ara Alam Khan Foundation were present on the occasion.
