The “debut” of the newly elected executive committee of SJA

The outgoing committee led received the elected members of the 27-new committee which also greeted the members of the outgoing one at Abdus Salam Hall of the press club. The departing committee led by its President Benzir Ahmed and General Secretary Asaduzzaman Azam formally handed over the duty to the newly elected one led by its President Habibur  Rahman Polash and General Secretary Obaidullah Mamun.

President of Shariatpur District Unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Shafiqur Rahman Kiron, President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Shahidul Islam, Member of BNP Executive Committee Mohiuddin Ahmed Jhintu, President of Bangladesh Insurance Forum and Managing Director  and CEO of Popular Life Insurance Company Ltd BM Yousuf Ali, BNP think-tank Dr Shakhawat Hossain Sayantha,  former Additional Secretary of the government Abdul Awal Howlader, founder of  the SJA and former President of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) Rafiqul Islam Azad, former President of the SJA Razu Alim, outgoing President and General Secretary of SJA Benzir Ahmed and Asaduzzaman Azam, newly elected President of the SJA Habibur Rahman Polash and its General Secretary Obaidullah Mamun spoke, among others, on the occasion.

Commissioner of the SJA Executive Committee Election Kanchan Kumar Dey, former Vice-President Rezaul Haque Reza and a number of politicians and different walks of people of Shariatpur accompanied with the SJA general and executive members on the occasion.

In his speech, Shafiqur Rahman Kiron said that the journalists should dig out the fact to make political leaders and others accountable.
He has requested the members of the SJA to report on different problems on the district.

He said, “Shariatpur should have a symbol. It should have a distinct flag side by side our national flag. I demand the government it will introduce 64 distinct flags to 64 districts.”

Kiron, also a member of the BNP Executive Committee, said Shariatpur district is backward over development despite its residents pay tax and others to the government as the rest of the districts people do.

On 10 January, the election of the SJA was held at Economic Reporters Forum-ERF office at Purana Paltan in Dhaka. The five posts---president, general secretary, two joint-general secretaries and organising secretary were elected through direct balloting while the rest post holders were elected unopposed.
