An attempted robbery took place at a residential building in the Panchlaish area of Chattogram, where former and current domestic workers conspired to loot the homeowner’s residence. While two suspects were apprehended during a police raid, several others managed to escape. However, the homeowner--, Lokman Hakim- was injured in the attack.
The incident occurred on Tuesday on the second floor of a building near Al-Hidayah International School on Road No. 1 in Panchlaish Residential Area in Chattogram.
The arrested were identified as Bayezid and Akash, who were employed as domestic workers at the house. The homeowner, Lokman Hakim, is the son-in-law of prominent businessman Abul Khair and a former Managing Director of Eastern Refinery Limited.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of four to five individuals entered the building around 11 am. Upon hearing a commotion, local residents contacted the national emergency hotline (999). Before the police arrived, three of the robbers attempted to flee, but locals managed to catch one of them and handed him over to the police. One of the suspects previously worked in the house as a domestic helper.
During the raid, law enforcement officers managed to arrest another suspect and rescue Lokman Hakim, who had been held hostage by the robbers.
Speaking to the media at the spot, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz said, "We used a sound grenade to apprehend one of the gang members. So far, we have arrested two suspects. The injured homeowner was found in the bathroom and has been sent to the hospital. He sustained stab wounds. Our initial findings indicate that the intruders had previously worked in the house. Our investigation is ongoing."
