Drivers and helpers of trucks, lorries and prime movers blocked Customs and Saltgola intersections in Chattogram city for around four and half hours in protest what they alleged attack on them by DC Park's staff in Sitakunda upazila of the district on Tuesday night. The attack left at least seven to eight people injured, they claimed on Wednesday morning.

The blockade by the transport workers caused severe traffic gridlock across the city and suffering of commuters. It was learned that an altercation broke out between the transport workers and the DC Park staff over parking vehicles in front of the park by Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sitakunda upazila around 9:30pm on Tuesday, leaving some people injured.

Protesting the attack, drivers and their helpers gathered in the busy Customs and Saltgola intersections and put barricade by parking their vehicles hazardously. The blockade lasted till 3am causing severe traffic jam, though they later lifted the protest upon assurances by police administration.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam alleged the transport workers carried out massive vandalism at the DC Park centering a factional clash between them. Later, police and army personnel brought the situation under control but the park suffered extensive damage, she added.
