Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said that justice for the mass killings during the "2024 uprising" must be the top priority before any other tasks. Failing to do so would be a betrayal of the martyrs' sacrifices.
He made these remarks on Saturday while addressing a Jamaat activists’ conference at Cox’s Bazar Government College field as the chief guest.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman urged his party members to stay away from extortion and criminal activities, asserting that politics should have no ties with such misconduct. Extortion was there before, and it still exists. Those involved in such activities must stop.
The Jamaat leader described his party as the most oppressed political group in Bangladesh.
"We still have not regained our registration. Jamaat is the only party whose registration has been revoked and banned because we seek to implement Allah’s law. In 54 years of independence, Jamaat has never been involved in corruption, unlike other parties that have looted and misgoverned while in power," he claimed.
He also cautioned party members and the public about ongoing conspiracies. "The battle is not over yet. We will not allow anyone to cause harm due to provocation. Former police official Benazir Ahmed is conspiring from abroad. Various plots are still in motion," he warned, urging everyone to stay alert.
The conference was presided over by Cox’s Bazar district Jamaat Ameer Nur Mohammad Anwari. Senior leaders, including Jamaat's Central Assistant Secretary General and former MP of Cox’s Bazar-2, Hamidur Rahman Azad, along with other central and district leaders, were present.
Both men and women attended the conference. However, the female participants listened to the speeches from the nearby Elias Mia Chowdhury High School field, opposite the college ground.
To ensure a peaceful and organized conference, nearly 1,000 Jamaat volunteers were deployed alongside law enforcement agencies to maintain security amid the large turnout.
