Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has said that the city corporation will start vigorous activities soon to repair roads to reduce public suffering. The mayor directed to start the stalled work in each zone at the field level within the next three days and visible development within three months.
Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain made the announcement while exchanging views with the Engineering Department at Tigerpass CCC office on Monday. At the meeting, Chief Engineer Mohammad Abul Kashem said that the changed political development work is being hampered as many contractors are absent.
At the time, the mayor said that the road repair work should be completed in a quick time. Quality and sustainable reforms will be ensured to reduce the sufferings of the city dwellers. The damaged roads of the main and alleyways of Chattogram city will be repaired on priority basis.
He also said that regular monitoring will be done to ensure transparency and accountability in the reform work. We will take quick and effective steps to relieve the city dwellers from suffering.
The mayor also said that negligence in road repair work will not be tolerated. Speedy and quality work must be ensured to alleviate the sufferings of the people. Cancel the work order of contractors who are not working properly. If any engineer evades responsibility, take disciplinary action against him. If there is a shortage of manpower, arrange new appointments and complete the renovation activities quickly by purchasing the necessary equipment.
He also said that quality materials should be used for long-term solutions, not just temporary repairs. No irregularities or corruption will be tolerated in the projects funded by people's tax money. The mayor also directed that all construction materials, including bitumen used in road construction and repair, should be tested in the laboratory to ensure the quality.
