A covered van driver was killed and at least 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a covered van in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj on Wednesday, police said. Police have yet to identify the deceased.
The injured were rescued and taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Following the accident, vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Khulna highway has been suspended.
According to police, the accident occurred around 8:30 am at the Pona Bus Stand area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. Upon receiving the news, fire service and Bhatiapara Highway Police rushed to the spot.
Md Shafiuddin Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kashiani Police Station said, “The front parts of both the bus and the covered van were crushed in the collision, leaving one person dead and at least 11 injured. We took the victims to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex. Five of the critically injured have been admitted to the hospital.”
