At least fifteen resorts and cottages were gutted in a massive fire which broke out at Sajek, a popular tourist spot in Rangamati's Baghaichhari upazila, on Monday. The fire broke out in a resort named 'Obokash Resort' around 1 pm and spread to the adjoining resorts and cottages. Witnesses said the fire engulfed the Echo Valley Resort, Meghchut Resort, Montana Restaurant, Maruati Restaurant and others.

On information, a team of Army from Baghaihat Zone, BGB members from 27 and 54 battalions rushed to the spot and are trying to bring the fire under control with the help of local people. However, the origin of the fire could not be known immediately. The fire could not be extinguished till the filling of this report around 4 pm.

Indrajit Chakma, owner of Hill View Resort, said 15 to 16 resorts and cottages were damaged during the fire and it took two hours for Fire Service to reach the spot from Dighinala in Khagrachhari district. Shirin Akter, Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said the army personnel and BGB members are working to tame down the blaze.
