Half a crore taka worth of gold has been recovered from a Moallem who returned from Umrah at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. The Moallem has been arrested in this incident.
He was detained after a flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, landed on Wednesday at 9:35 AM.
The arrested Moallem, Shahin Al Mamun, is a resident of Rangamati hill district.
Confirming the matter, the airport's public relations officer Ibrahim Khalil said, "The Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-136 from Jeddah landed at Shah Amanat International Airport at 8:36 AM. Later, an Umrah Moallem named Shahin Al Mamun was exiting through the international arrival gate number 3 after crossing the airport customs green channel."
He said, "Upon noticing this, members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) quickly went and began searching him. During this time, 400 grams of gold ornaments (22 carats) were recovered from him, with an estimated value of 5,069,200 taka. Legal action is being taken against the detainee."
