About 5.60 lakh children will be fed vitamin 'A' plus capsule in Chattogram on Saturday under the countrywide campaign.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain will inaugurate the vitamin 'A' plus campaign on Saturday morning.

Under the campaign, about 90,000 children aged between six months and 11 months will be given capsule with blue color while about 4.70 lakh children aged between 12 and 59 months will be administered with red color capsule on the day.

CCC Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain informed this at a press conference at the CCC conference room at Tigerpass on Thursday noon.

He said total 1,321 permanent and temporary vaccination centers will be set up at 41 wards in the city.

The campaign will continue from 8:00am to 4:00pm in 41 wards under seven EPI zones of CCC.

Earlier, in the national vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign held on June 1, 2024, 87,957 children were fed capsule against the target of 88,590 children of 6-11 months. The achievement rate is 99 percent.

On the other hand, the target of 12-59 months was 4.71 lakh 950 children. On the contrary, 4.68 lakh 959 children were fed capsules. The achievement rate is 99.78 percent.

CCC Mayor said that all preparations have been completed to make the national vitamin 'A' Plus campaign successful. Under the management of CCC, the children will be fed vitamin-A capsules at CCC-run charitable dispensaries, city health centers and EPI centers.

CCC Mayor said there is no alternative to vitamin A Plus to prevent night blindness and to protect children from malnutrition.
