Two people were killed and several others injured in a clash between Awami League (AL) and BNP men in Narsingdi's Raipura in the early hours of Friday, March 21. The dead were Amin, 23, son of Khorshed Mia, and Bashar, son of Barek Haji, residents of Mohinipur village in the upazila. They were supporters of local AL leader Salam.
Locals said Chanpur union BNP president Samsu Member had been a loggerheads with Chanpur 9 no. ward AL president Abdus Salam Mia and the union AL joint general secretary Shohag over establishing supremacy in the area. Due to the conflict, Samsu Member and his supporters were out of the area.
After August 5 last year, they returned locality and forced Salam and his followers out of the area. When the latter wanted to come back to the area in the early hours of today, Samsu Member and his men obstructed them, leading to a violent clash between the two groups.
A man was shot dead, while another was hacked to death during the clash. Raipura police station's officer-in-charge Adil Mahamud said Samsu Member, Salam Mia and their followers clashed over establishing supremacy.
