A fire broke out at the petrol shop in Ruhia's Karnaphuli Bazar on Tuesday (28 March) afternoon. Later, local people and Fire Service brought the fire under control.
Russell and Rabiul Islam, witnesses, said, we were sitting in our shop. Suddenly, a few shopkeepers started running around saying fire fire. After a while, with the help of some people, the oils were brought out from the petrol shop.
A person who did not wish to be named said that the market has three major points of sale of highly flammable fuel within 300 feet distance without fire fighting capacity and risk-free storage. The points are stocked with around 20,000 octane petrol and various flammable materials. It was also near the residential area includes banks, insurance and various business establishments. Who will take responsibility if a major accident occurs?
Al Amin, the owner of the shop, said, "I cannot say how the fire started suddenly. An open drum had 5-7 liters of fuel oil and that drum was full of fire. But there was no major damage."
Kamal Hossain, Station Incharge of Atwari Fire Service, said that we rushed to the spot after receiving information about the fire in the petrol shop. Later, the fire was brought under control. However, it is not known how the fire started.
