Ending the wait, Gazipur City Corporation voting is happening today. The administration has taken strict security measures on the occasion of the polls.
The voting will start at 8 am and it will continue till 4 pm without any break, said the official sources of the Election Commission on Wednesday.
"The Election Commission has already completed all the necessary preparations for holding the GCC polls on Thursday (25 May)... and the electoral campaign ended on Tuesday midnight," said Election Commissioner (EC) M Alamgir.
All the polling equipments are being sent to the polling stations from this (Wednesday) morning as the equipment will be handed over to the concerned presiding officers from the returning officer's office located at Bangataj auditorium .
Voters are interested in who is the third-time mayor. However, this city election is a litmus test for the government ahead of the national assembly elections. This election is the test case of their public opinion verification.
This election is a test of how independent the Election Commission is in organizing fair and free elections, and how much their capacity is. After being expelled from the party for two consecutive times, how popular Jahangir Alam is in this election. Voters say they can vote through EVMs in a normal and peaceful atmosphere. And the Election Commission has said that they have all kinds of preparations for a free and fair election.
