Awami Jubo League activist Azad Sheikh (32) was killed in an attack by some miscreants while returning home from the Khulna Divisional Rally of 'Tarunner Joyjatra' in Mohsin Chowrasta area in Perli village under Kalia upazila of Narail on Thursday (20 July) evening.
The deceased Azad was the son of Salam Sheikh of Perli Uttar Para and the elder brother of Sajjad Sheikh, president of the Perli Union Jubo League unit.
According to witnesses, the union Jubo League leaders and activists participated in a procession 'Tarunner Joyjatra' held in Khulna.
After finishing the program, Azad was returning home in the evening. On the way, a group of some miscreants attacked and beat him with hammers and sticks around 6.30 pm, leaving Azad seriously injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalia Police Station Sheikh Tasmim Alam said.
Locals rescued Azad and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, he said.
Member of Parliament of Narail-1 constituency BM Kabirul Haque Mukti has strongly condemned the murder of Azad Sheikh.
He also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the murder.
