At least eight people died and several others are missing when a picnic trawler capsized after colliding with a bulkhead in Munshiganj’s Louhajanj upazila. There were 46 people onboard the trawler.
The incident happened around 8:00 pm on Saturday (5 August) in the Khidirpara union (tributary of Padma) of the upazila, confirmed Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Servie and Civil Defence Headquarters.
Bodies of two men, four women, two children have benn recovered so far, he said.
A team from the Bangladesh Coast Gurad, a unit of Louhajanj Fire Station and Dhaka's diving unit of the fire service are working to rescue the rest of the missing passengers.
