Fishermen preparing to fish as ban coming to end

Thousands of fishermen are preparing themselves and waiting on the river bank to sail for fishing Hilsha as 22 days-long ban will come to an end at midnight of Thursday (2 November).

Earlier the government declared a ban on Hilsha fishing from 12th October to 2nd November for safe breeding of the fish. As the Hilsha fish researchers found this is the peak time for Hilsha breeding. While mother Hilsha comes from the deep sea to the river basin for safe breeding.

During a visit to the river bank of Meghna in Hilsha fish ghat and Bangter khal area of Bhola sadar upazila it is found that some fishermen are engaged in repairing nets.

At the time one Faroque Majhi and some other fishermen told this correspondent that they were deprived of getting any assistance from the ban time. So, they passed hard days during the time to maintain their family and borrowed money from the money. Landers in high interest.

It may be noted here that there are over two lakh fishermen families in the Bhola district. Of them, 1.85 lakh fishermen were issued fishermen card registrations. However, the government sanctioned food assistance for 1.56 lakh fishermen of seven Upazila. Naturally, a huge real fishermen are deprived of food assistance.
