The Dhaka Mercantile Co-operative’s former chairman Shihan Abrar Chowdhury and Managing Director (MD) Shamsun Nahar are being investigated by Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) in two cases.
It was known that two cases have been filed in 2020 but the investigation is not over yet. Both the cases are of Special Investigation Branch.
According to the ACC sources, a faction of ACC has become an obstacle in the investigation work. Dhaka Mercantile Cooperative's influence is so strong that it has been alleged that a
Deputy Director of the ACC was transferred from the head office to an integrated district office due to their lobbying as the investigation officer seized the records. Dissatisfaction is also seen among the ACC officers in this regard.
It has been alleged that the investigator of another case was summoned by a senior officer of the ACC and ordered to slow down the investigation.
Regarding these allegations, ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Jahurul Haque told The Daily Messenger, "I do not know about these matters. Please ask the concerned Director General
(DG), he would be able to help you. Commissioner's job is to make policy not to know what is happening to any pertinent file.
This correspondent called ACC Secretary Mahbub Hossain but he did not receive the call despite sending messages on WhatsApp and Messenger.
