The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against engineer Momirul Islam, manager (network) of the Customer Control and Maintenance Branch (Cumilla) of Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited (BGDCL), for possessing unexplained assets worth Tk 60 lakh 10 thousand.
Deputy Director Shawon Mia of the ACC's Integrated District Office (Dhaka-1) filed the case (number-24) on Tuesday.
Momirul Islam's home is in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia.
Talking to the Daily Messenger about the allegations, Momirul Islam said, "A relative of mine filed a complaint against me with the ACC due to a conflict with him. The ACC did not accept all my income from truck rent. If those incomes were taken into account, the case would not have been filed. Earlier, three ACC officials have given me a clean chit from the allegations. The officer who filed the case did not take my statement either."
according to the case, the ACC issued a notice of assets declaration after investigating an allegation of disproportionate assets against Momirul Islam, the former deputy manager of Bakhrabad Gas Field, Chandpur. He submitted his assets declaration to the secretary on October 25, 2017.
According to the statement, the ACC issued an asset declaration notice against the former deputy manager of Bakhrabad Gas Field Chandpur, Momirul Islam, after investigating an allegation of acquiring assets outside of known income. On October 25, 2017, he submitted the statement of assets to the secretary. In the asset statement, he has given an account of assets worth 1 crore 60 lakh 88 thousand 962 rupees in his own name. However, the ACC's investigation found evidence of movable and immovable assets of Tk 2 crore 26 lakh 59 thousand 314 in total income and family expenses. Out of this, the legal source of assets of Tk 1 crore 66 lakh 48 thousand 815 was found, but the legal source of Tk 60 lakh 10 thousand 499 was not found. Due to which the case was filed against him under Section 27 (1) of the ACC Act, 2004.
