The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has lodged a case against Amir Hamza, a drug dealer from Chattogram, on charges of possessing assets exceeding the known income by Tk 1 crore 71 lakh 62 thousand.

He attempted to conceal illegal assets under the guise of income from fisheries, dividends from a furniture business, earnings from an auto rice mill business, and acquiring loans. However, these efforts proved futile. The case was filed on November 22 by Assistant Director Nurul Islam at the ACC's integrated district office (Chattogram - 2). Amir Hamza is implicated in a drug case (number-9) from December 18, 2016, at Chattogram’s Rangunia police station. The accused is locally known as Amju.

According to the case statement, Amir Hamza claimed to have amassed wealth amounting to Tk 1 crore 71 lakh 62 thousand from the income of M/s Bismillah Auto Rice Mill but failed to produce any valid records supporting this claim. While acknowledging the existence of debt in the asset statement, he was unable to furnish any records related to the debt to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). In essence, he attempted to legitimize his illegal income by portraying it as a loan.

In the asset declaration, Amir Hamza claimed fish farming on the lease of 600 decimal ponds. However, during the investigation, no records related to fish farming could be presented to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Additionally, he did not disclose any income from fishing in his income tax documents.

He declared an investment of Tk 1 lakh on M/s Bismillah & Abid declared in the asset declaration. Amir Hamza asserted that he covered family expenses using profits from the furniture business, yet he failed to furnish the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) with any record-based evidence of income from the furniture business.

In the asset declaration, Amir Hamza declared total wealth amounting to 1 crore 50 lakh 66 thousand taka, comprising immovable assets worth 1 crore 34 lakh 88 thousand taka and movable assets of 15 lakh 78 thousand taka. However, during the enquiry, total assets in his name were found to be 1 crore 71 lakh 62 thousand taka, consisting of immovable assets valued at 1 crore 55 lakh 84 thousand taka and movable assets of 15 lakh 78 thousand taka. This reveals a discrepancy, as he concealed information about assets totaling 20 lakh 95 thousand taka. The asset statement was submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in May 2019.
