BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Monday (22 January) have been granted anticipatory bail on 7 cases till March 25.

Six of the cases were filed against Gayeshwar with Ramna and Paltan police stations in connection with the violence that erupted during the BNP's grand rally in the capital on October 28, last year. One of the cases against him involved vandalism at the chief justice's dwelling.

The HC further ordered Gayeshwar to appear before the trial courts on March 25 in the proceedings.

Gayeshwar submitted six applications requesting bail in the cases, and a panel of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Ahmed Sohel issued the decisions in response.

Earlier in the day, the accused appeared before the HC panel seeking bail.

Gayeshwar was granted bail due to his advanced age, according to Deputy Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman Monir.

During today's bail petition hearing, senior lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury pleaded on behalf of the defendant.
