Moreover, Mamun was implicated in instances of frequent eve teasing and rape targeting women in the campus.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, the director of the legal and media wing of RAB, disclosed these details at a press conference held at the RAB media center in the capital on Thursday, February 8.

He further stated that on February 3, at approximately 9:30 pm, the wife was subjected to a gang rape in room number 317 of 'A' block in Jahangirnagar University's Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall.

Following the incident, law enforcement agencies swiftly apprehended four individuals with the assistance of university hall authorities throughout the day and night. In response to the egregious crime, the victim's husband filed a gang rape case under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at the Ashulia police station.

In solidarity with the victim and to demand swift justice, students of the university organised protest marches and assemblies, urging authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure exemplary punishment.

To expedite the legal process and ensure accountability, RAB intensified intelligence surveillance efforts aimed at apprehending all individuals involved in the sensational rape case and bringing them to justice.

Continuing the investigation, on Wednesday night, a joint operation involving teams from RAB-2, RAB-4, and RAB-5 was carried out in the Farmgate area of the capital city. During this operation, the mastermind behind the sensational gang rape, Mamunur Rashid (44) was apprehended. Simultaneously, another raiding party conducted operations in the Naogaon Sadar area, leading to the arrest of one of the accused individuals, Murad (22).

During the initial interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that Mamun, who was apprehended, had been engaged in drug trafficking for approximately 6 to 7 years. Mamun's modus operandi involved sourcing around 7 to 8 thousand yaba pills monthly from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. These drugs were then distributed to several drug-addicted students of Jahangirnagar University and its surrounding areas.

Furthermore, Mamun developed friendships with several senior students, including Mustafizur Rahman, who is accused number 1 in the case, through his drug dealings in the Jahangirnagar University area. Mamun would often spend nights in the Jahangirnagar University hostel, carrying drugs with him, and would consume drugs along with other students.

Additionally, he frequently arranged gatherings on the rooftops of various halls within the university premises.

The arrested Mamun and the victim's husband, Zahid Mia alias Robin, became acquainted approximately 3 to 4 years ago as they lived in the same area. Mamun utilised Robin to distribute drugs to nearby areas, including the university vicinity.

Commander Moin disclosed that when Mamun encountered housing issues a few days ago, he contacted the victim's husband and requested to stay at their residence temporarily.

Subsequently, Mamun resided in the victim's rented house as a subtenant for approximately 3 to 4 months, establishing a close relationship with the victim's family.

Prior to the incident, when Mustafizur expressed his intent to engage in immoral acts, Mamun contacted the victim's husband on the afternoon of February 3, informing him that an individual named Mostafizur Rahman, known as an elder brother at Jahangirnagar University, had arranged for him to stay in the university hall.

Yes, according to the arrested Mamun, he asked the victim's husband, Zahid, to meet him at Jahangirnagar University to introduce him to Mustafiz. Mamun stated that the meeting took place in room 317 of Jahangirnagar University's Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall that evening. Mamun then introduced the victim's husband to his accomplices, including Mostafiz, Murad, Sabbir, Sagar Siddique, and Hasanuzzaman.

During the interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that Mamun tactfully instructed the victim's husband to call his wife (the victim) to retrieve the clothes he had used while staying at their residence. Subsequently, the victim's husband contacted her and instructed her to meet him in front of the gate of Jahangirnagar University, carrying Mamun's used clothes in a bag.

Around 9 pm, the victim arrived in front of Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall with the bag containing Mamun's used clothes, as per her husband's instructions. At this juncture, in accordance with the premeditated plan, Mamun and Mustafiz, covertly directed Murad to escort the victim's husband and the bag of Mamun's clothes to room number 317 of the hall.
