Six members of Detective Branch (DB) (North-South) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) were suspended in connection with looting Tk 3.5 crore from a freelancer on February 26.
The six cops are SI Md Alamgir Hossain, ASI Babul Mia, Md Shah Paran Jannat, Moinul Hossen, Jahidur Rahman and Abdur Rahman.
The suspension order was given based on the findings of a probe committee which was formed to investigate the incident, said CMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-PR) Spina Rani Pramanik.
A departmental case will be filed against them in this connection, she added.
Besides, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has already started investigating the two cases filed in this incident on the orders of the court.
Earlier, a team of CMP's DB North-South Zone led by Ruhul Amin detained Abu Bakkar from Gulbagh residential area under Bayzeed police station on February 26 night and seized his mobile phone set.
The DB men threatened to implicate Bakkar in a false cybercrime and money laundering case. Later that night, the DB police took him to the DB office in the city's Mansurabad Police Lines.
In custody, the cops forcibly unlocked Bakkar's phone with his fingerprint, logged into his Binance account and transferred around $2,72,000 (Tk 3 crore approximately) to another account. They also transferred Tk 10 lakh from his Bangladeshi bank account via mobile banking.
CMP formed a three-member committee headed by Counter Terrorism Division's ADC Asif Mohiuddin on March 2 to investigate the matter.
Later the probe committee submitted the report on Tuesday (12 March).
