Police in a drive arrested two alleged drug traders along with 1.456 kgs of heroin from Lakshmipura area of gazipur City Corporation on Sutarday (16 March).
The arrestees are Fahad Hossain, 27, son of Al Amin of Balugram village of Chapainawabganj district and Safat Hossain, 20, son of Semajul Islam of the same area.
Khairul Alam, additional deputy commissioner (Crime, North) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, disclosed this information in a press briefing on Sunday afternoon.
Tipped off, several teams of Sadar police station took a position on the paved road in front of the gate of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute in Lakshmipura area of the city on Saturday.
Being suspicious, police intercepted a truck and recovered the heroin worth Tk 1.5 crore from 14 polythene packets hiding under the driving seat of the truck.
Efforts are underway to identify and arrest others involved in drug dealing, added the officer.
