Man awarded death penalty for killing wife in Ctg

A court on Wednesday (3 June) awarded capital punishment to a man in a case over the killing of his wife in the city's Bakalia area.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Dr Jebunnesa Begum delivered the judgment convicting Md Jamal, 35, son of late Jonab Ali in Musagara village under Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla.

The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default; he has to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution, the convict Jamal and his wife Parvin Akter used to live in a shanty of Bastuhara Colony in city's Bakalia area. They used to lock into altercation over family issues since their marriage in 2020.

Noticing their frequent quarrels, colony owner asked them to leave his house. But the landlord found the door of their house locked from outside on January 17 in 2022.

Later, he saw the victim's body wrapped with a blanket lying on the bed and informed police about the matter.

The victim's sister Baby Akter filed a murder case accusing Jamal with Bakalia thana on January 18, 2022.

The court today announced the verdict after examining a total of 13 prosecution witnesses out of 21.
