Dhaka Metropolitan Police wants to speed up the police service to the city dwellers through extensive reshuffle. Already 12 officers including additional commissioner of DMP headquarters have been assigned responsibility. In addition, the issue of appointment of new officers in charge of 50 police stations is almost at an end. DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman was sacked after the fall of the Awami League government. He is missing currently. The most talked Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid is also absconding since the day of the incident.
It is known that Dhaka Metropolitan Police is known as the biggest police unit. About 30,000 officers and members of the police are in this unit. Since August 5, police activities in Dhaka have been severely disrupted. The army assisted police operations to some extent. Mainul Hasan has been working to ensure police service to the citizens since taking charge as the new DMP Commissioner.
According to DMP sources, 12 senior officers of DMP were posted last Thursday. AKM Hafiz Akhtar has been attached to Police Headquarters as Additional Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration Division) Faruk Ahmed as Additional Commissioner of Police (Acting) (Admin) of DMP, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Taherul Haque Chauhan as Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration Division), additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim to DB Wari Division Deputy Commissioner (Acting), Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Moinul Haque Uttara Zone, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mofizul Islam in Wari Zone of Wari Division, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ziaul Haque in Tejgaon Zone of Tejgaon Division, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abu Laich Md. Ilyas Giku in counter terrorism investigation department, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Wari Division SM Shamim is attached to the headquarters, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Rezwanul Islam has been attached to Motijheel zone of Motijheel division, Additional Deputy Commissioner Fazlul Karim to DB Wari zonal team and Additional Deputy Commissioner Abul Hasan to headquarters.
Also, on the same day, 15 officers of the rank of Police Inspector were posted as Officer-in-Charge (OC) in 15 police stations of DMP.
The new OCs posted are - Turag Police Station OC Mohammad Sajedul Islam, Shahbag Police Station OC AKM Sahabuddin Shaheen, New Market Police Station OC Sajjad Hossain, Sutrapur Police Station OC Md Mohsin Hossein, Bangshal Police Station OC Atiqur Rahman, Lalbagh Police Station OC Kayshainu, Rampura Police Station OC Mohammad Ataur Rahman Akondo, Mugda Police Station OC Sohrab Mia, Kadmatli Police Station OC Mofizur Rahman, Jatrabari Police Station OC Md. Mainul Islam, Shyampur Police Station OC Md. Shafiqul Islam, Shahali Police Station OC AKM Mamunur Rashid, Darussalam Police Station OC Rakib Ul Hasan, Adbar Police Station OC Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan, and Mohammad Golam Mostafa at Mohammadpur Police Station. Earlier on Wednesday, 13 OCs were posted as officer-in-charge of the new police station.
Mohammad Taifur Rahman Mirza in Dakshinkhan Police Station, Mohammad Nazrul Islam in Pallabi Police Station, Md. Tauhid Ahmed in Gulshan Police Station, Mohammad Mazharul Islam in Bhatara Police Station, Muhammad Azharul Islam in Khilkhet Police Station, Ghulam Farooq in Ramna Police Station, Mullah Md. Khalid Hossain has been assigned the duty of OC at Paltan police station.
In addition, Md. Saiful Islam in Badda Police Station, Ershad Ahmed in Airport Police Station, Muhammad Monirul Islam in Mirpur Model Police Station, Md. Mobarak Hossain in Tejgaon Police Station, Md. Hafizur Rahman has been sent to Uttara-paschim police station and Mohammad Anwar Hossain has been sent to Dhanmondi police station with the responsibility of OC.
Muhammad Azharul Islam was said to be sent to Shahbag police station, but later he was given charge of Khilkhet police station and the previous order of transfer was canceled in his case.
When the government fell on August 5, Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who was appointed during Sheikh Hasina's tenure, was dismissed the next day. He was replaced by Commandant of Traffic and Driving School Moinul Islam.
On August 7, the Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Harun-or-Rashid was removed and Additional IGP AKM Shahidur Rahman was brought to lead this elite force of police.
The entire police department is going through major changes right now. Some top level officials have also been sent on compulsory retirement.
DMP officials hope that police service to citizens will be 100% guaranteed soon.
