A case has been lodged against 300 leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), including former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, for their alleged involvement in killing of university student Sakib Anjum during the movement of anti-discrimination students.
Father of the deceased Mainul Haque lodged the case with Boalia Model Police Station in the city last night mentioning names of 42 AL leaders and workers.
In his petition, Mainul Haque mentioned that the AL leaders and workers led by AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and city unit general secretary Dablu Sarker suddenly opened fire and blasted bombs from point blank indiscriminately on the large rally of the students-people at Alupatty area around 1.30 pm on August 5.
Scores of students, including Sakib Anjum, Raihan Ali, Maruf Mourtoza, Ibrahim Ali, Maruf, Hassan and Mehedi Hassan, sustained bullet-wounds in the attack. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment, where Sakib Anjum succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Masud Parvej, Officer-in-Charge of Bolaia Police Station, said they recorded the case and started conducting drives to bring the accused people to book as early as possible.
Earlier, two other cases were lodged against AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and many other AL leaders and workers in the city.
