Ex-IGP Mamun on 4-day remand in trader Wadud murder case

A court here today placed former Inspector General of Police (IGP) on four-day remand and former counselor of Dhaka South City Corporation's ward-26 Hasibur Rahman Manik on five-day remand in a case lodged over killing of trader Abdul Wadud in the city's New Market area during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each in the case.

Mamun was arrested on September 3 and was placed on eight-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Mohammadpur grocery shop owner Abu Sayed, the next day. The former police chief was placed on four-day remand on September 24 in another case filed over the killing of Mohammad Ismamul Haque in Chankharpul area.

Manik was arrested from Lalbagh Kellar More area on August 22 and was placed on five-day remand in college student Khalid Hasan Saifullah killing case, the next day.

Abdul Wadud was killed in front of New Market 1st gate on July 19. His relative Abdur Rahman filed the case on August 21 against 130 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Anisul Huq, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Salman F Rahman.
