Safia Khatun, former MP (reserved seat) from Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria-Pekua upazila) has been arrested from Dhaka’s Pallabi area in connection with a case over the killing of a youth during the July-August movement.
Safia, 70, former vice-president of Mahila Awami League, was arrested from Balughat area around 10:10 pm on Saturday night, said Talebur Rahman, DC (Media) of the DMP.
After analysing CCTV footage, information from intelligence and with the help of technology police arrested her, he said. On July 19, Akram Khan Rabbi was shot dead during the movement in front of Abul Taleb School at Mirpur-10 in the capital.
Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
On August 25, Faruk Khan, father of Akram filed a case with Pallabi Police Station.
