The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed six separate cases against as many people, including former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, former chief of DMP's Detective Branch Harun-Or-Rashid, and Md Jahangir Alam, former personal assistant to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, for amassing wealth beyond known income illegally.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development this afternoon (17 December), saying the cases were filed at the anti-graft watchdog's Dhaka Integrated District Office.

The other three accused include Harun's wife Shirin Aktar and brother ABM Shahriar and Kamrun Nahar, wife of Jahangir, popularly known as Pani Jahangir, who is already accused of amassing a fortune of Tk400 crore.

In October this year, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) started an investigation against Jahangir, who used to serve at Hasina's residence Sudha Sadan, over allegations of laundering a significant amount of money to the United States through hundi.
