A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant against national cricketer and former Awami League MP Shakib Al Hasan in a cheque dishonour case. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman passed the order today (19 January) after Shakib failed to appear before the court, reports The Daily Star.
Earlier, on 18 December last year, a Dhaka court had summoned Shakib and three others to appear before it in the case. The three others are Gazi Sahagir Hossain, managing director of Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm; Imdadul Haque, a director of the company; and Malaikar Begum.
IFIC Bank Relationship Officer Shahibur Rahaman filed the case on behalf of the bank on 15 December.
According to case details, the agro farm owned by Shakib took loans from the Banani branch of IFIC Bank at various times for business purposes. Against that, the company issued two cheques totalling about Tk4.15 crore that were dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
