Police have arrested a madrasah teacher in Gazipur's Sreepur for allegedly attempting to rape a seven-year-old student. The accused, Abdul Malek, 25, was detained by locals yesterday evening (8 March) and later handed over to the police. The victim's father has filed a case against the teacher.
According to locals, the incident occurred last Thursday (6 March) at a Hafezia madrasa in Maona union, where Malek allegedly attempted to assault the child.The victim, traumatised, refused to return to the madrasah and later disclosed the incident to her family. Upon learning of the matter, her relatives and local residents confronted the teacher, who admitted to the crime before being turned over to the authorities.
A 54-second video of his confession related to the incident was posted on a Facebook account named Atiqur Rahman, in which Malek is heard saying, "I was deceived by Shaitan and made a mistake. I have never done such a thing before. I did not harm the girl." Shamim Akhter, investigation officer at Sreepur police station told Prothom Alo, "The accused has been arrested, and a case has been filed. He will be sent to court today."
