Police arrested four alleged members of a robbery gang. That group mugged at least four people including a female police constable on Dhaka streets on May 12 and 13. The gang of robbers used to roam the city streets on a pick-up van and robbed people.
On Tuesday (16 May) Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division Police Hayatul Islam Khan told these in a press briefing at the DMP media centre. The arrestees are Sohel, 30; Akter alias Sohrab, 32, Abir Hossain alias Rasel, 25 and Roni, 28.
More than 100 CCTVs footages analysed by a police team. They arrested the four from Mohakhali area Monday (May 16) as they gathered there for robbery, he said.
They also seized the pick-up van, two knives and four mobile phones from their possession, he added.
The DC said they have stepped up their vigilance after a constable of Special Branch was mugged near Rajarbagh Police Lines in the early hours of May 12.
In primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they committed at least four robbery incidents on May 12 and May 13 at Rajarbagh, Banani, Dhanmondi and Tejgaon areas.
