Unscrupulous traders are making the market more volatile by manipulating the prices of various products abnormally. It is known that the powerful syndicate has started anarchy again in the egg market. Eggs illegally stocked in potato cold storage to cut customer pockets: Market destabilized by cutting supply overnight. The powerful syndicate is fixing the increased price of eggs through SMS every day. After the implementation of that price, the price is increasing at the retail level. Surprisingly, strict action has not been taken against those responsible in the recent case of eggs being recovered from the freezer.
It is known that Dhaka’s Tejgaon Egg Traders Association and some corporate organisations set the price of eggs. Suddenly they reduced the price and collect eggs from the farmers. Some of them then store it in cold storage and make a profit by increasing the price on the pretext of supply shortage. Last year the price of eggs was increased at an unusual rate. Did the authorities take any action to identify those responsible at that time? Was appropriate action taken against those who were identified?
Low-income people cannot buy fish and meat regularly. They have to rely on eggs to meet their non-vegetarian needs. What is their way to survive if there is repeated instability in the egg market? It is not possible to improve the situation by listening to the policies of those who create instability in the market. If legal action is delayed against them, it is natural that they will try to do the same again and again.
Instability is not only limited to the egg market; it is observed that there is instability in the commodity market every few days. In this case, if the authorities show laxity, it will be difficult to establish order in the commodity market. The authorities should take special care to ensure that the market does not become unstable due to wrong policies of the government. Weaknesses in market surveillance have come up again and again. There should be no delay in taking timely action to overcome this weakness.
It has been observed that whenever there is a strong crackdown on unscrupulous traders, various commodities disappear from the market. This further increases the suffering of consumers. Due to the influence of syndicates, there has been extreme volatility in the commodity market for a long time. However, the vigorous activity of the authorities in identifying the syndicate is not visible in that way. It has been seen that the rice market is manipulated even during the paddy harvesting season. From this it is clear that the roots of the syndicate are very deep. Therefore, there is no alternative to regular market supervision as well as strong action by the concerned authorities to stop the activities of syndicates.
