Let normalcy return soon

With general offices, banks and business houses partially opening doors on Wednesday, from 11am till 3 pm every day, life has begun to crawl back to normalcy in the country. Though the trail of mindless violence, destruction and arson on the roads remain to remind everyone of what happened only a few days back, people want to get back to work to earn a living. They do not want alms; they want work and that is what defines the people of this country.

On the first day, people braved all sorts of adversities to reach office in due time and attend to pending work after a long hiatus. Vehicles of all denominations on the roads were a welcome sight to the citizens.

People confined within the house for over one week want life to bounce back so that they can get busy like before, but with slow internet and curfew still in force, that would not happen immediately. For obvious reasons, curfew will be lifted only when no threat to peace and tranquility will exist in the country.

Nevertheless, with the shortage of public transport on the roads, hundreds of office-goers suffered a lot during the office time. They missed the services of Metro Rail and Elevated Expressway, both of which remain closed because of extreme damage suffered during the violence.

No denying that commuters were getting used to Metro Rail for long distance travelling at a comparatively cheaper cost. It took only minutes to reach Motijheel from Uttara and the ride was smooth. Similarly, it took only 8 minutes to reach Maghbazar from Kuril/Bashundhara by Elevated Expressway. Unfortunately, both these services were damaged by the anti-social elements hiding amidst the student protesters. We believe the government is working to apprehend those elements and send them to courts for trial.

We welcome the city authorities in their sincere efforts to bring back normalcy in the city by removing the scars of destruction. Dhaka is the capital city of an independent country therefore this must be made presentable to foreign visitors. The metropolis must get back its original countenance.
