Important steps to restore order on the road

Since last August 5, the entire traffic control of the country has been going on without the help of the police. There was no traffic police on the road during these days. The students have taken the responsibilities. They have tried their best to move the vehicles on the road in accordance with the rules. Rules we have never seen on the streets. Such efforts of the students undoubtedly impressed everyone. However, the traffic police are back on the road since yesterday.  We hope that the traffic policemen will also try to enforce the rules like the students.  

Besides, the traffic will be aware of accidents on the road. The main causes of accidents are reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, unfit vehicles, violation of traffic laws, driving by incompetent and drugged drivers, defects in road construction, non-use of pedestrian-bridges, unsafe crossing of roads and lack of proper enforcement of laws. Despite knowing the reasons for road accident, why is order not returning to the road?  When will our roads be safe? First, attention should be paid to solving these problems quickly.  We hope the interim government will restore order on the roads soon.

It is difficult to estimate the human and economic losses due to road accidents. Yet, it has been observed that a significant proportion of those who die in road accidents are the sole earners of the family. As a matter of fact, these families ultimately sit on the road. Many of the injured also lost their moving power. As a result, their families are also endangered. Economically, road accident losses are 5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

It is not difficult to restore order on the road.  In the meantime, the court has given several observations including dope test to the drivers in order to reduce road accidents. We hope that the initiative taken by the court will be implemented soon.  At the same time, it is very important to take the following initiatives to make the roads safer.

It is hoped that with the appropriate action of the interim government along with the awareness and sincere efforts of the people, order will be restored on the roads.
