Urge to restore order on the road

As the Bangladesh Police Association announced a strike on August 6, students of various ages voluntarily performed police duty on the roads of the country. We sincerely thank them for the example they have set in this regard. At one stage Bangladesh Ansar & VDP members were seen with students of different ages on the road. To reduce traffic congestion on the road, they divided it into several lanes for the movement of ambulances, rickshaws, private cars and motorcycles, which was not seen in the past. Motorcyclists and riders are forced to wear helmets.

They also checked driver's license and vehicle documents. Besides, students were seen working as a team to keep the roads clean in different areas of the capital. They also spent a busy time painting graffiti on walls across the capital. They say that this event is to convey the message of the new day by remembering the image of the anti-discrimination student movement and the sacrifice of the students. Students are saying that we should move forward with the plan of building a beautiful society and nation together. This initiative of the students is also commendable.

The traffic police members started working on Tuesday, but the students cooperated with them in groups in different areas of the capital like last few days. They were also seen trying to keep the sidewalk free from encroachment. In the past, we have noticed hawkers lining the footpaths as well as many main roads. There was no one to see this until now. It is necessary to ensure that no one can sit on the road like before
Millions of defective vehicles are plying in the country. The issue of corruption in driver licensing is also widely discussed. If these problems are not solved immediately, the task of establishing order on the road will be difficult. Needless to say, if effective measures are not taken to address the problems of reckless driving, inefficiency, speeding of vehicles on the highways, it will be difficult to maintain order on the roads. If there is a deficiency in the capacity of related institutions along with the weakness in road management, it is doubtful whether order can be established on the road as a whole. The authorities should take appropriate initiatives to maintain the initiatives taken by the students to establish order on the roads.
